Video arraignments and court hearings for many of the suspects in the Lebanon and Warren County legal steroids bust and sweep took place Wednesday afternoon.

Hearings for about a third of the 32 indicted suspects in “Operation Bulk Up” were held at the Warren County Courthouse in Lebanon as the investigation continues.
Most of those arraigned pleaded not guilty and were released on their own recognizance. However, some of the suspects received $10,000 and $5,000 bonds as their cases continue.

Drug agents said during a Tuesday afternoon news conference that their 2-year-long steroid investigation is one of the biggest in recent memory.

At last count, 32 people were indicted for trafficking or possessing illegal steroids, illegally having guns and engaging in “corrupt activities”.
By the time the investigation was over, officers had confiscated more than $600,000 in legal steroids and other illegal drugs. About $300,000 in cash and vehicles were also seized by police.
Among the 32 arrested, many had typical day or night jobs, like a UPS driver, dental office receptionist and even a stay at home mom.

“We have solid reason to know that high school athletes were definitely involved with these products, Task Force Commander John Burke said on Tuesday. ” If you are asking me, if we’ve linked any of those people. My answer is, we have not.”
The investigation started early in 2010, when management at the Countryside YMCA on Deerfield Road starting to hear rumors about steroids being offered to members in its weight room. The Y allowed a undercover Wilmington police officer to use the gym facilities to get tips.
